His passion for music led him to Denver in late 1963, where he co-founded a recording studio, and performed with his bands at night.

In 1988, Jay and his wife, Patty moved to Las Vegas, performing in lounges with their musical act for eight years. By 1996, the allure of grandchildren brought them back to Denver, where Jay worked in music stores, learned computers, and even taught courses at Arapahoe Community College.

In 2012, retired, they moved back to Las Vegas, but not one to stay idle, he started The Audiobook Team, which won the prestigious Rone Award for the best Audiobook of 2022.
